1. What have you found most challenging as a Christian school leader?
One of the challenges our school faces is never having to meet our students in person and serving families and students whom we can only connect with through devices. We are caught in the unfavorable position of being the pinch point in the system. Both teachers and students are adjusting to online learning and grace is needed from both sides as everyone learns to adapt.
2. How do you structure your work days from waking up to going to sleep?
To connect to God, I structure my day systematically. I start and end my day with hope and a prayer. In between, I do my duties as a Managing Director for Marketing and Student Affairs at GCA while I take care of my family.
3. What's the most recent significant leadership lesson you've learned?
As a Christian leader, I learned that knowledge is ever-growing. I learned that everyone can help me learn something while they also learn from me, and I need to constantly fuel this knowledge to inspire others, especially the new generations of Christians.
4. What's one book apart from the Bible that has had a profound impact on your leadership so far? Can you please briefly tell the story of how that book impacted your leadership?
It’s The Early Bird Catches the Worm But The Second Mouse Gets the Cheese by Francis Kong. Aside from the Bible, this book has changed my perspective in life. I learned more about reality, about love, life, and about God.
5. How do you find and keep great Christian teachers?
We look for Christian teachers who know how to be leaders and followers. In our community, we hone them to be the best versions of themselves in front of God and the new Christian generation. We remind them that this is what a Christian home should be.
6. What's most important as a Christian school leader for developing a culture of wellbeing in your staff and students?
It’s important for us to consider their well-being so we need to be considerate and proactive. We need to look at each of them as a whole, including their potentials, problems, weaknesses, and strengths, to develop a healthy community.
7. What is one meaningful story that comes to mind from your time as a Christian school leader so far?
One recent story happened during the pandemic. These difficult times tested our Christian faith and ability to adapt. During our Christmas party, our staff and students still find it in us to connect, communicate, and collaborate online. We still found a way to lift each other up.
