7. What is one meaningful story that comes to mind from your time as a leader, so far?
Why getting rid of your Ego is important ?
Ancient Story from Mahabharata.
Lord Krishna, was returning from the war of Mahabharata to his Capital Dwaraka. On his return he met a very Knowledgeable enlightened Rishi Utkarsh . He was very Happy . He mentioned we are meeting after long time and I am very Glad about it. I am very pleased and now want to grant you one boon as a gift. The rishi said , I am Sanyasi and alone , what will I do with Boon since I don't have any attachment ? Lord Krishna said I still want to Give you. Tell me what will Give you? The Rishi said I most of the time Move around in Forest and Desert. Grant me Boon that whenever I Wish, for Water, It is readily available for me. Lord Krishna Said - Granted. He moved ahead.
One day entire day Rishi was moving around in Deserted Forest , he became thirsty but didn't get water. He then Meditated and Prayed Lord Krishna asking for water. A very dirty Beggar with Torn Clothes appeared with a Dirty Leather Bag with Earthen glass. He asked I sense that you are thirsty please take this water. The rishi became angry - he thought how dare this dirty Beggar offer me water ?
He discarded him angrily - the beggar once again requested humbly . but the rishi strongly refused he moved his neck other side. He Noticed that the beggar Vanished immediately miraculously. He then realised that there is some thing Wrong from My side. I have failed to recognise the god himself came in disguise, but I insulted him . He felt sorry and guilty from within.I am such a Knowledgeable Brahmin Rishi who has attained such stage , but my knowledge failed to recognise. Lord Krishna appeared in his full attire after some time . Rishi angrily asked him - What is this ? Why are you testing me ?
I am such a Learned Brahmin Rishi and you sent me such a dirty beggar for serving me the water ? Lord krishna said : When you prayed for me - I immediately Contacted Lord Indra in the heaven the King of Gods and requested that you be served with "Amrit" the heavenly drink available only for gods. Indra said it is only for Gods and can not be served to Humans . After my insistence he agreed - but he said I will go in disguise and will give him chance , & will not insist. Lord Krishna said yes. and agreed .
After this lord Krishna Vanished. The moral of the story is - we all have our egos . This is most important Hinderance in our Progress. There are opportunities that are golden and valuable that we all miss just because we are not able to drop our egos. Thanks
