1. What have you found most challenging as a board member?
Implementation of ideas after decisions are made
2. How did you become a board member? Can you please briefly tell the story?
I am an activist and very active in the media space, the chief director personally head hunted me.
3. How do you structure your work days from waking up to going to sleep?
I have my own private company 5 days a week and I do director responsibilities for the NPO two to one days a week.
4. What's the most recent significant leadership lesson you've learned?
I learned that not all battles are worth fighting. As long as the greater vision is still in place.
5. What are some of the keys to doing governance well in a organisation?
Clear boundaries of power and decision making. A good financial plan that is actually implemented.
6. How do you differentiate between the role of board member and the roles of CEO or executive team member of a organisation?
Board members only make organizational decisions that need community input. I am a board member and also a director, as executive members we manage teams of staff in different projects toward advancing the NP Vision.
7. What is one meaningful story that comes to mind from your time as a board member so far?
I came in thinking that people know how to listen, but often people only perform listening as a ritual to only prepare to respond and often what is said is not actually enacted or implemented.
