7 Questions with Johanna Gorrín

.

1. What have you found most challenging as a CEO or executive of a large enterprise?

The most challenging task has been to keep the focus of the business and not be enchanted by people who come hinting at good intentions, and what they really want is to take advantage. I have had to say no to proposals with questionable provenances many times.

2. How did you become a CEO or executive of a large enterprise? Can you please briefly tell the story?

I am the founder of the company, I had already been an entrepreneur in the past both in Venezuela and in Spain, when I arrived in the Czech Republic, the language barrier made me rethink my career and I decided to undertake and chose a true market niche.

3. How do you structure your work days from waking up to going to sleep?

My agenda (written notebook) is essential in my day to day and I write both work and personal obligations. So I can end each task when the next one needs to start. In this way I do not neglect any aspect of life. Usually since I wake up I focus on work and in the afternoon I release it and dedicate myself to my personal life.

4. What's the most recent significant leadership lesson you've learned?

Teaching others how you would do things helps a lot for the project to progress as you want it to, obviously without interfering too much in the autonomy and professionalism of others.

5. What's one book that has had a profound impact on your leadership so far? Can you please briefly tell the story of how that book impacted your leadership?

To your surprise, self-help and psychology books are the ones that usually guide me in this aspect of my life. They help me manage emotions, be consistent, and follow my instincts safely. I do not have a specific book, each one that I have read gives me something that is added to my brain.

6. How do you build leadership capacity in a large enterprise?

Delegating functions, motivating people and being very organized in all your responsibilities. And without a doubt, self-control and effective management of emotions. Being assertive is essential.

7. What is one meaningful story that comes to mind from your time as a CEO or executive of a large enterprise so far?

Without a doubt, the beginnings, you have to have a lot of discipline to carry out a project, create strategies that people believe in you and in your company.
