7 Questions with Bola Adisa

.

1. What have you found most challenging as a church leader?

Managing volunteers to be effective and efficient. Getting desired results as and when due with volunteers can be challenging.

2. How did you become a church leader? Can you please briefly tell the story?

Since I gave my life to Jesus in my teenage years, I have always told myself I will be available to serve God. My journey to leadership is on the back of availability to serve, what He wants me to do and wherever he wants me to go, am available.
With this mindset, I always found myself nominated, selected to serve in leadership from my university days, Class groups and local church. This has occurred so much that I am beginning to see leadership as an assignment, a calling.

3. How do you structure your work days from waking up to going to sleep?

I try to obey the time management principles of scheduling and task management. I make a mental note and task list for all I need to do and cross them out when done. I am also open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit for instructions.

4. What's one book apart from the Bible that has had a profound impact on your leadership so far? Can you please briefly tell the story of how that book impacted your leadership?

The one book that has impacted my life apart from the Bible is The 360 Degree Leader by John C. Maxwell. It helped me identify how to lead at all levels I find myself and also draws my attention to leading other stakeholders around me. This book helped me to be aware of myself in any organisation or environment and be conscious of how I can exert influence.

5. What's the most recent significant leadership lesson you've learned?

The culture of an organization or team depends on how the leader models it and the behavior he tolerates.

6. How do you develop a healthy leadership pipeline in a church?

First is to have a mindset of leadership development. By having this mindset, I work with my team and walk the path of recognizing potentials. Then we had a leadership training system in place to train interested would-be leaders. We ensure that all possible team leaders have a principal overseeing the pastoral (welfare), discipleship prayers within the team. This will help foster successors. We also pray to God to send us people that will be leaders.

7. What is one meaningful story that comes to mind from your time as a church leader so far?

One story I will never forget is how a young man came to our church, did our volunteer training, and couldn't find a unit that he felt God wanted him to serve. He explained why he was so passionate and interested in the ministry he wants to evolve if given the chance. Himself has been to prison severally and it's in prison he gave his life to Jesus. The Church worked with him to start a prison ministry unit.

He has since moved on to other duties as his work has taken him out of the country, but the ministry he started at Elevation Church remains.
