1. What have you found most challenging as a leader in the education sector?
Government regulations
2. How do you structure your work days from waking up to going to sleep?
A balance of meetings, classroom visits & exercize/family time.
3. What's the most recent significant leadership lesson you've learned?
Highly trained and dedicated people are our main asset.
4. What's one book that has had a profound impact on your leadership so far? Can you please briefly tell the story of how that book impacted your leadership?
“From Good to Great”. It stresses several key foundations for successful organizations - making sure our mission is clear and that we have the right people occupying the right seats on the bus to help us be as effective as possible.
5. How do you find and keep great leaders in the education sector?
We have an excellent HR Director who is strategic and applying the latest standards in recruitment. We pay 5% above provincial Teachers scale and offer excellent benefits, including very generous professional growth opportunities.
6. What's most important as a leader in the education sector for developing a culture of wellbeing in your staff and students?
Make well-being a key organizational value and priority. It is always part of the conversation at our school. We also offer a wide range of well-being activities - from fitness, Yoga, to art, trivia and cooking.
7. What is one meaningful story that comes to mind from your time as a leader in the education sector so far?
Because of our deep commitment to the whole child, we had a donor double a multimillion dollar gift to the school. We are thorough, caring, genuine and consistent. That breeds trust and respect.
