Name: Janne Lautanala

Current title: Chief Ecosystem and Technology Officer

Janne is an accomplished digital business leader with more than 20 years of professional experience in leading organizations like Accenture, Avanade, Wärtsilä and Nokia.

Throughout his career, Janne has successfully established and grown innovation programs, delivered projects and established operational capabilities in Europe and the Asia-Pacific regions. He has also been involved with several major digital transformation projects in high tech, manufacturing, government, retail and telecommunication industries.

Currently he works as the Chief Ecosystem and Technology Officer at Fintraffic.

As a recognized innovation leader and Industry expert, Janne had the opportunity to speak about Innovation and Information Management topics in a number of public events, television and media in Europe and Asia Pacific.

Janne owns a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (Majoring in telecommunications technology) from Aalto University.

1. What have you found most challenging as a CEO or executive of a large enterprise?

Learning the new, complex environment and prioritizing the activities.

2. How did you become a CEO or executive of a large enterprise? Can you please briefly tell the story?

I have long experience of working in leadership positions in large organizations. When returning back to Finland from Singapore, I was contacted by Fintraffic regarding my current positions.

3. How do you structure your work days from waking up to going to sleep?

I spend the first 20 mins of my work day planning the day and week. I prioritize the activities for the day to ensure the best outcome. I try to use 1h per day in the gym in order to ensure I keep myself fit.

4. What's the most recent significant leadership lesson you've learned?

During COVID-times, you have to ensure you have extra sensitivity for people's concerns

5. What's one book that has had a profound impact on your leadership so far? Can you please briefly tell the story of how that book impacted your leadership?

Transforming Nokia by Risto Siilasmaa. I have worked as a consultant and employee of Nokia, thus I also had a background of the company.

6. How do you build leadership capacity in a large enterprise?

Leading by example, mentoring and coaching

7. What is one meaningful story that comes to mind from your time as a CEO or executive of a large enterprise so far?

Leading ICT in large organizations requires extensive (internal) customer focus. By ensuring you serve your customers well and communicating constantly, you will ultimately ensure success.
