7 Questions with Amit Ambegaonkar

1. What have you found most challenging as a leader of a small or medium enterprise?

The most challenging aspect of a business is to understand the many moving parts that a business has and to get them aligned to achieve the purpose of your business. I can share with you that once I was able to figure out the different processes, structure, and strategy that works in business, that's when business got so much simpler and enjoyable.

2. How did you become a leader of an SME? Can you please briefly tell the story?

I started off in businesses and dabbled my way thinking that my expertise in the field will give me success in it. During this period I was hitting roadblock after roadblock. I realized that being an expert in a field and making it into a successful business are two entirely different things!
My interest in business, willingness and love of study, resulted in my knowledge to scale my business really fast. I started to show my friends and business partners what can be done to help their businesses and improve their sales.
Due to the wealth of information that I was able to share and get results for others, I transitioned into having my own business consulting where I now have many practical and hands-on training programs for entrepreneurs and small business owners.
My message is that you can definitely do it and I can show you the way to get to where you want to be.

3. How do you structure your work days from waking up to going to sleep?

My day begins with spending time with my family.
When my business hours start, I have a specific morning routine where I will look at my Business's overall status, goals we want to achieve and how we are doing towards working on those, then I am planning out the action plan and deciding the specific tasks to be completed for today to get those results.

4. What's the most recent significant leadership lesson you've learned?

Leadership is about getting the other person to know that they are powerful and help them to be able to overcome challenges, barriers and achieve goals.
Especially right now, a lot of people have lost confidence and their certainty and therefore need a lot of support and guidance. Hence leaders have to step up their game and make others become powerful again.

5. What's one book that has had a profound impact on your leadership so far? Can you please briefly tell the story of how that book impacted your leadership?

The Success Principle: Jack Canfield.
This book has made such a significant impact as I have been reading this book for about 12 years now and the principles are so simple and powerful to apply and create results.
Now having applied them myself and teaching these to my students has significantly helped me to be a more powerful leader and help more people gain success.

6. How do you build leadership capacity in an SME?

I share my knowledge about leadership for SMEs through my Training and workshops.
I have a number of Sales, Marketing, and business development courses and coaching programs that help specific areas in business.

7. What is one meaningful story that comes to mind from your time as a leader of an SME so far?

I recently did group training and in that, I was teaching about productivity and how to be really productive and not just busy.
I shared some powerful principles with the group and how they can apply them in their business and life.
I got an email from one of the participants that she applied one of the principles I shared with the group and she was able to significantly improve the relationship with her daughter. She was so happy that she took the training as never before was her relationship with her daughter was so good as it is now.
Remember, she did not come to the training for that but because what I teach could be applied in any area of your life, she applied that principle and got unbelievable results for her family.
