1. What have you found most challenging as a leader of a small or medium enterprise?
Understanding the numbers.
2. How did you become a leader of an SME? Can you please briefly tell the story?
Being a leader evolves over time but at its core being a leader is knowing and communicating with people and that is something I've always been passionate about which has led me to my many leadership positions.
3. How do you structure your work days from waking up to going to sleep?
When you own a business there is no set schedule, you need to be willing to wake up and face whatever the day throws at you and that is how I approach my day to day.
4. What's the most recent significant leadership lesson you've learned?
I recently learned with all that is going on that the right decision isn't always the easiest or most profitable decision. It is important to step back and take a truly holistic view in all decisions as they have a ripple effect.
5. What's one book that has had a profound impact on your leadership so far? Can you please briefly tell the story of how that book impacted your leadership?
Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns taught me to not surround myself with "bobbleheads".
6. How do you build leadership capacity in an SME?
Through actions and experience.
7. What is one meaningful story that comes to mind from your time as a leader of an SME so far?
Imagine you are on a ship, and as a leader of that ship you are in the crows nest which gives you a view of the deck, and everything that is going on. It also gives a view of the horizon and what is to come.
