Name: Eric Erickson
Current title: CEO/Managing Director

For over 25 years I have been helping individuals monetize their business ideas. I provide small businesses with CEO/COO support to help them grow. I am a business consultant, business growth expert, a process pro, and a learning and development specialist.
1. What have you found most challenging as a leader of a small or medium enterprise?
The lack of organization and processes within small and medium enterprises
2. How did you become a leader of an SME? Can you please briefly tell the story?
Much of it was trial and error. When I had an idea, I would do the research, make sure it was a valid idea, and could make me money. This helped me to better understand business, finance, and how businesses can scale.
3. How do you structure your work days from waking up to going to sleep?
From a high level view, I decide how many hours I want to work each week and then I decide the items that are most important. At the beginning of each week I use my google calendar to make sure I stay within the hours I said I wanted to work. I make sure I exercise each day and then go to bed at a reasonable time to ensure I get 8-9 hours of sleep each night.
4. What's the most recent significant leadership lesson you've learned?
It's important to honor the struggle. We all have struggles, but it is how you deal with them and learn from them is what counts.
5. What's one book that has had a profound impact on your leadership so far? Can you please briefly tell the story of how that book impacted your leadership?
Covey's 7 Habits books. It's important to not only have a plan but understand how the plan affects the outcomes of who you are. If you do not understand who you are and what type of leader you want to be, you cannot be an effective leader.
6. How do you build leadership capacity in an SME?
Part of it is helping others understand your vision. Part of leadership is making sure they see the vision and understand the various components. Another component is making sure you are always giving kudos for even the small efforts of your people. Likewise, you need to make sure you're-direct them when they are not following the vision.
