Name: Jun Miyazaki

Current title: Founder and CEO, Ph.D.

Current organisation: OrangeTechlab inc.

Jun has a long experience as an intrapreneur at a large company (Fuji Xerox), and has many experiences to cross “chasm” between the companies’ innovation divisions and start up companies / sales divisions / planning divisions. He has also long experience connecting the Silicon Valley area and Japanese R&D divisions and has made SV’s seeds to be real products.
He initiated at least three products and services from both his own seeds and through start-up collaborations.

1. What have you found most challenging as a CEO or executive of a large enterprise?

2. How did you become a CEO or executive of a large enterprise? Can you please briefly tell the story?

After I chose an early retirement of a big company, I was an independent consultant for a while. Government research invited me as a visiting researcher and one day, one of my clients asked to start a company to pay the consulting fee as a company not an individual. So i started my own company.

3. How do you structure your work days from waking up to going to sleep?

These days, mostly I am working from home. Schedule is quite flexible, but many remote meetings are coming day by day. Sometimes I have to wake up until midnight, because of the time difference. In those cases, I often wake up late to save my total sleeping time.

4. What's the most recent significant leadership lesson you've learned?

CEOs should not be busy. Creating a daily cash-flow business model is very important.

5. What's one book that has had a profound impact on your leadership so far? Can you please briefly tell the story of how that book impacted your leadership?

This book helped me how to survive as an entrepreneur in a big company, and also suggested to me how I can consult other companies.

It is important to create and maintain relationships with top management as strong stakeholders.
