1. As a leader, how do you build trust with employees, customers and other stakeholders?
One simple rule. Care about them and their priorities and goals. Realize that these might be different of adjacent to the company's goals.
2. What do 'VISION' and 'MISSION' mean to you? And what does it actually look like to use them in real-world business?
Mission is why the business exists. How are you changing your customers' world so that all the employees can get behind it every day to work hard? Vision is where the business is going. It gives something for the team to believe in.
3. How can a leader empower the people they're leading?
Don't micromanage them. Work with them to set the strategy and required results and have them decide how they will achieve it.
4. Who are some of the coaches or mentors in your life who have had a positive influence on your leadership? Can you please tell a meaningful story about one of them?
Rieva Lesonsky: Whenever I didn't know "what the right thing to do was", she would help me see all sides.
5. Leadership is often more about what you DON'T do. How do you maintain focus in your role?
Block out the distractions for an hour a day. Focus on what will make a difference today in your business. Prioritize the urgent and the strategic.
6. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Everyone plans differently. How do you plan for the week, month and years ahead in your role?
List out what I want to accomplish and measure myself against them.
7. What advice would you give to a young leader who is struggling to delegate effectively?
Read the Harvard Business School case study on "Who's Got the Monkey". Realize you will never be a successful leader until you delegate and find that leverage with your team.
