Listen, don’t tell

Updated: Nov 17, 2022

Think about your biggest revelations…

What were they? Can you think of one right now? A life revelation, or leadership revelation or any sort of aha moment.

I remember one for me was standing in a room of 30 people I was leading and my heart dropped.

I felt a mix of confusion, frustration and disappointment in myself.

I clenched my fist and ground my teeth together.

Why? Because the people in that room were competent and passionate.

But I had no idea how to get them all rowing in the same direction.

That was an aha moment for me. A revelation I’d have to learn new skills and ideas if I wanted to bring alignment and momentum to a group

of people.

Here‘s the interesting thing.

People had told me this!

But I hadn’t experienced it myself.

What about you? Do you have a coach right now? Or a mentor?

Do they listen?

Or tell?

Read my story above again if you need the reminder - revelations we need to grow as leaders rarely come from being told!

Instead, when we’re provided with the time, space and insightful questions needed, we can have the revelations we need to move forward.

Make sure you have a coach or mentor who helps YOU have the revelation by listening rather than telling.
