1. As a leader, how do you build trust with employees, customers and other stakeholders?
Be authentic. Share your real self with others and be honest, consistent and fair. Non judgmental and decisive. People may not like the truth but they do need to hear it and respect the way your deliver it as everyone is different. Inclusivity is important.
2. What do 'VISION' and 'MISSION' mean to you? And what does it look like to use them in a real-world business?
Vision is the idea which requires rigorous planning and group validation but without it you have nothing. Mission is the process you all take to undertake to realise the vision.
3. How can a leader empower the people they're leading?
Being a leader who understands their role and supports the people to do their best. Trust is critical in the process, and you need to be able to set the example and realise you are on the journey together.
4. Who are some of the coaches or mentors in your life who have had a positive influence on your leadership? Can you please tell a meaningful story about one of them?
I can't really highlight one single person however life is my mentor and accessing smart, experienced people from a variety of backgrounds is my value add. Listen and learn and apply what you are able to do within your own personality and given abilities. We are all different and it is important to recognise that 'take aways' are just that. You order what you like from the menu of life and you can't digest it all.
5. Leadership is often more about what you DON'T do. How do you maintain focus in your role?
You constantly reassess your personal goals and, importantly, look after your health and wellbeing. Talk through issues regularly and don't avoid them.
6. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Everyone plans differently. How do you plan for the week, month and years ahead in your role?
Reactive issues are in the moment, prepare for the unknown, and plan for the known. Each day is different, so maintain your diary and schedules, and constantly reassess your goal.s
7. What advice would you give to a young leader who is struggling to delegate effectively?
Trust each other to manage each other's expectations and bring everyone along on the journey.
